A subway delay goes right - Musicians playing “What’s Going On” at West 4th
In my commuting myopia, any little thing that goes wrong with the trains can seem like a big deal, though I’ve gotten a lot more patient about the whole thing recently.
Still, one of the most heartbreaking events is when I’m heading home, approaching the 59th Street stop on the A train, and the B train I’m supposed to transfer to is just pulling out, especially because the B does not come frequently.
A couple of weeks ago, this happened and I was all annoyed and impatient, so I decided to stay on the A rather than waiting for the next B at 59th. I took the A to West 4th, in hopes of catching the B I had missed down there. I did not make it in enough time; however, when I got off at West 4th, this amazing band was playing “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye. The ten minutes I lost because of the delay ended up being more than worth it. I only wish I had caught more on tape.
