There have been a number of high profile controversies surrounding health research results over the past several years. A misleading study that said organic foods weren’t any healthier than non-organics, a study that found a type of x-ray could prevent 80 percent of deaths from lung cancer, and many more.
Journalists are often accused of hyping medical research for the sake of a good story, but scientists can be just as culpable if not more.
What’s the deal, and who’s responsible? Read my article Spin Doctors: The media, the science, and the hyping of health studies for the 2x2project. I spent more time than I usually get to reporting this article, so I’m pretty proud and happy with how it turned out.
